Omnitrack & The Bloodhound SSC Engineering Adventure

Omnitrack are proud product sponsors of the Bloodhound SSC Engineering Adventure.

Some of the minds behind the land speed record breaking Thrust2 and Thrust SSC cars, plus new engineers from F1 and aerospace, are pushing the limits of engineering to achieve a land speed of 1,000 mph with the Bloodhound SSC. Their mission is ‘to confront and overcome the impossible using science, technology, engineering and mathematics’ and ‘to motivate the next generation to deal with global 21st century challenges’. More than just a world record attempt, the Bloodhound SSC Engineering Adventure is sharing all of the car’s technology with the public to involve and inspire future engineers.

Omnitrack are supplying Bloodhound with High Capacity Ball Transfer Units which will be used to load / unload the Falcon rocket. After each run, the rocket is completely empty and must be replaced for the next run within a certain amount of time. By using Omnitrack High Capacity Ball Transfer Units, the Bloodhound SSC team will be able to slide the rocket in and out of the car with maximum precision and smoothest movement without having the time consuming task of dismantling the entire rear of the car in order to lift the Falcon rocket out. Our High Capacity Ball Transfer Units will also have to withstand the potentially corrosive environment of the Hakskeen Pan desert in order to facilitate the vital rocket replacement procedure – something that conventional hemispherical ‘cup and ball’ units would struggle to provide.

It gives us great pleasure to be involved in such an ambitious and momentous engineering project. The Bloodhound SSC Engineering Adventure will extend the boundaries of what is currently possible in engineering and inspire future engineers to push those boundaries further.

Workers stop until the cows come home

Production at Omnitrack had to stop last wednesday in order to prevent a potentially large car accident on the A46. Several cows had found their way onto the cycle path which runs parallel to the busy main road and were in danger of wandering into the lunchtime traffic. Due to the quick thinking of Omnitrack employees, the cows were restricted to the cycle path and later herded back to where they came from.
